Westwood Lake (Nanaimo)

Westwood Lake public beach where the boat ramp is located.

Westwood Lake by Nanaimo is an adequate paddling location. It will suit your purpose if you're looking for something easy. On the other hand, with so many fantastic options for the kayaking around Nanaimo, this is not one I'm likely to choose again.

For someone who doesn't like rocking motions, Lilo certainly seems to enjoy kayaking!

Trail that makes its way around Westwood Lake...

The end of Westwood Lake, right of the public beach.

Looking back to where we launched by the public beach, we see part of the trail (with handrails) around the lake along the shore.

Lilo navigates the kayak through a maze of dead trees.

Today, the shade was to be found opposite the public beach, amid the stumps and sundry tree skeletons.

One of seemingly hundreds of stumps to be found at either end of Westwood Lake and on the shore opposite the public beach.
